Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
So, there goes the lovely messenger service, replaced by Skype. I'm not happy about that at all. It's almost as bad as Windows 8. Actually... Windows 8 is a piece of junk...

There is a reason there's a "Windows Users Will Be Shot" sign in my apartment, you know...Intercity125 wrote:Windows 8 is a piece of junk...

Re: Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
Well, I've always used Windows as my personal machines, and I love them, but Windows 8 is appalling. I'd even go as far to say that I'd use Vista rather than 8. But I'm happily sticking with XP and 7 for the next 100 years if this is the way Microsoft is going.

Kinda surprised you hate it. I like Windows 8 a ton more than other previous OSes. They actually made a decently crafted OS on its first iteration too! Games run nicer too

Let's just say I hate it's design, and what ir represents. However, if it was on a phone or pad, it's a fantastic OS. Just not for PC lol.

lol, well I'll be honest and say for PC, really the ONLY thing I had to get used to was pushing the windows key on the keyboard, and then I just had to spend 15 mins setting up the shortcuts properly on the grid.Intercity125 wrote:Let's just say I hate it's design, and what ir represents. I disabled all "Apps", removed those icons from the start grid and there ya go, now it looks a ton more like a PC .

Re: Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
Neb told me there is some sort of "fix" for it, makes it boot a proper windows system up, taskbar etc... but still, I'm not planning on using Windows 8...

Re: Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
I've heard rumors that Windows 8 breaks Steam and games on it. Unless you get some supremely ultimate version. We'll see whether that's the case. After I put Win 8 in a VM. (I have Win8 ISOs from MSDN)Intercity125 wrote:Well, I've always used Windows as my personal machines, and I love them, but Windows 8 is appalling. Re: Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
lol quite untrue, some games that were broken in fact for 7 work with far less modification on 8 as well.

Re: Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
interesting... if there is a way to get Windows 8 looking like a proper Windows OS, then maybe I will look into it...
Re: Microsoft ditching Windows Live Messenger
Not the best looking OS I've seen, I have to say...

I thought that too at first. Why the heck did they do away with the curves and smoother edges for the sharpe, and pointy gui.F9thRyker wrote:Not the best looking OS I've seen, I have to say...
Over a week I got used to it, and it made a bit more sense to me. This is an OS designed to scale down to a tablet and up to a PC. Curves dont scale as easily as squares/90deg angles. The alterations to the GUI are meant to solve the problem of scaling.
Yea, you do need to spend a week or so before it becomes natural to you. It is the 1 big risk MS took with it, which is why they've spent so much effort to include tutorials and training. But still in honesty, it is exactly like Win 7, but with pressing the Windows key on the keyboard over Start->All Programs.Intercity125 wrote:Used it the other day. Did my frigging head in.
It is VERY Important to keep in mind with the OS, you must envision this across tablets, phones, PCs, and everything in between. MS has quite the right idea, as we will never get to the next era of computing without MS & Apple unifying their OSes across devices. Apple wont be too far behind with iOS and OSX merging probably in the near future too, they might keep going a little slower though.

Oh, I 100% agree that the interface is fantastic for a tablet/phone, no doubt about that. Microsoft got it bang on the money with that. But this PC thing is just... I dunno, I can't see myself using Windows 8 on a pc, it just doesn't work for me.

well like anything it takes a bit of adapting and getting used too..Intercity125 wrote:Oh, I 100% agree that the interface is fantastic for a tablet/phone, no doubt about that. You'll be wanting that IE 10 with integrated spell check and DirectX11 stuff though coming with Win 8, and well we all know it wont be long before you'll be needing Win 8 to run the next set of games coming up in the next few years, what joy! lol.
I'd suggest just ease yourself into it with a VM of it and just spend some time with it(1 to 3 weeks) before taking a sledge hammer to its head. Take notice of load times, other game behavior, and the little corners of windows that were enhanced, such as task manager.
