So earlier this week my partner got us tickets to go see a workshop video screening of Allegiance here in Sacramento. Allegiance is a musical being developed for Broadway that focuses on the experiences of Japanese-Americans sent to internment camps during WWII by the American government. One of its main characters is played by...George Takei.
Well, George was there himself with his husband Brad Altman. We were actually sitting three rows up from him and had some good conversation with both of them. We even got into a somewhat esoteric discussion of the travels of Earl Warren as he went from a gubernatorial candidate running on a platform of locking up Japanese-Americans to being Chief Justice of the Supreme Court - one of the most liberal courts to have ever existed.
We also got a fancy picture -
The really scary part is I realize how tall my 13-year old is now...
